About Duneane Ceilidh Band – professional ceilidh band based in County Antrim, Northern Ireland
3 reviews

The Duneane Ceilidh Band is based in County Antrim, Mid-Ulster Northern Ireland and has over 25 years experience playing at Irish and Scottish ceilidhs, weddings, private parties, barn dances, corporate functions and other social events.

Ceilidhs (or ceilis) have been growing in popularity at weddings in particular, as the dances involve everyone - from the young to the not so young.

The instruments in the band include the midi accordion, fiddle, low whistle, guitar and drums. There is always a singer to provide a bit of variation from the ceilidh dance music if required.

No experience of ceilidh dancing is necessary as all the dances are called out and explained before the dance begins, and all the way through until you are exhausted - and happy!

More information about Duneane Ceilidh Band

The band plays a fantastic range of Irish and Scottish ceilidh dances with waltzing and jiving in between the ceilidh dances to add a bit of variety if needed.

The legendary Oliver J "OJ" O'Neill, from County Tyrone, provides versatile guitar playing and vocals for a good mix of old-tyme waltzes, country and even some rock 'n' roll music if requested.

John Oliver "JO" Duffin provides further variety in the band with tunes on the low whistle and uilleann pipes. John has many years of experience with different bands like the Crazy Folkers and can play a wide variety of tunes from many different genres, blending in well with dance music and singing.

DJ entertainment to finish off the evening can be easily organised by the band.

"Dear Duneane Ceilidh Band, Thank you so much for playing at our wedding in May. With photographs etc, we missed a lot of the drinks reception music, however what we did hear was perfect and we had nothing but compliments from our guests. The main event of course was the Ceili, which we had kept secret from the majority of our guests! I think many of them were a little confused and reluctant when asked to line up on the dance floor for the first of the Ceili dances. However, those that did take part thoroughly enjoyed it and those that didn’t were ready to go for the next one! Some guests initially thought that one dance was it and were thrilled to realise it wasn’t just a one off! Guests who joined in only for the last dance said how much they wished they had got up earlier. As I explained before the day, our guests were from several different cities, counties and countries including London, Liverpool, Manchester, Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Mayo (and the rest of Ireland), Northern Ireland, Australia, the USA and Canada. Many of them had never even heard of Ceili/Ceilidh dancing, never mind taken part! The band made it so easy for everyone to get involved, calling the different places out to encourage the guests onto the dance floor and explaining each dance thoroughly. The Scottish guests definitely helped keep some people right as well! We wanted a Ceili as neither of us are great dancers but having lived in Scotland for over 10 years we both enjoy a good Ceilidh! However, finding a Ceili/Ceilidh band in Ireland wasn’t as easy as we thought it might be! Having read a lot of reviews and phoned around a few bands we were pretty set on Duneane Ceilidh Band and we’re so glad we managed to persuade you to come down from Northern Ireland to complete our list of wedding wants! We really appreciate you travelling down to Mayo for our wedding, we had a few surprises for our guests throughout the day but I think the Ceili might have been their favourite! We cannot recommend your band enough and would be thrilled to see you again at an event in the future. Thank you!"

"We had Duneane Ceilidh Band at our wedding at the Portaferry Hotel in August and we couldn't have been happier with our choice. In terms of logistics and planning, Gerard and his family were a joy to work with from beginning to end and made everything easy. At the reception itself, they were absolutely FANTASTIC- great music, got everyone out dancing, and everyone had a blast. At the end of the night, some of our guests got up to sing and the band accompanied them! Altogether the best night of my life and it was made extra special by having you play. It's a night I'll never forget and the pictures from the ceili are some of the most joyful of the evening, I'll treasure the memories of so many people I love altogether, dancing and having a good time for a long time. Could not recommend Duneane Ceilidh Band enough!"

"Gerard, Stephen and all, Peter and I just wanted to thank you all once again for performing at our wedding last week. We had an absolutely brilliant time, and so many of our guests, as well as the staff at the Beech Hill, have commented to us about how great you were at getting the party started and keeping people on the dance floor all night long. Even the Dutch guests who had never seen anything like this before had a fantastic time and everyone really enjoyed getting involved with the dancing. So thank you so much again - you really were such a big part of our reception and we cannot thank you enough for helping us all have a great time!"
